Colombo is the commercial capital, the financial centre of Srilanka and a popular tourist destination.
Recently, I had an oppurtunity to stroll on the Galle Face green, which is is a five hectare ocean-side park and stretches for a half kilometre along the coast. The original Galle Face Green extended over a much larger area than is seen today. The Galle Face Green was initially used for horse racing and as a golf course, but was also used for cricket, polo, football, tennis and rugby. Adjacent to the Galle Face Green is the famous Galle Face Hotel and the Taj Samundra. On the other end, land is being reclaimed from the ocean to build an offshore Colombo Port City.
